El Rastro

El Rastro

This conceptual rebranding project presents a fresh visual identity for El Rastro, Madrid’s most iconic flea market, in operation since 1496. The aim was to develop a contemporary design system that honours the market’s rich heritage while capturing its vibrant, ever-evolving spirit. The result is a brand that feels both nostalgic and current, bridging centuries of culture, craftsmanship, and community.

Inspired by El Rastro’s rich history and eclectic atmosphere, the concept draws on vintage Spanish signage, market textures, and artisan objects. The design approach considers both locals and tourists, those who see the market as tradition, and those who discover it as experience.

Concept

El Rastro is more than a market. It’s a Sunday ritual, a place of memory, culture, and discovery. This branding celebrates that spirit: rooted in history, yet open to reinvention.

A visual homage to the thrill of the unexpected.
